SFUSD faces a major budget deficit caused by declining enrollment, reduced state funding, and rising expenses. Unless the budget is balanced, San Francisco faces the possibility of school closures and State takeover of its education system.
In the prior year, SFUSD released a list of 13 schools facing possible closure. This year, the San Francisco Chronicle reports that SFUSD may be able to balance the budget and eliminate a $114 million deficit through staff cuts, a new payroll system, and a reorganized central office.
This panel will discuss the plan currently in place to stabilize SFUSD's finances while ensuring students' equitable access to educational resources and opportunities.
Panelists will be:
Superintendent, Dr. Maria Su
BOE President Phil Kim
San Francisco Parent Coalition Representative Stephanie Falkenstein
BOE Student Delegate Yzabel Lam
The moderator will be ENDC Board Member Rupali Singhal
