Join the San Francisco Democratic Party for an evening celebrating our city's pioneering LGBTQ+ history. As part of our Democrats on the Move campaign's September focus on the Tenderloin, we're supporting this groundbreaking theatrical experience that honors those who stood up against injustice.
In summer 1966, transgender women and allies in the Tenderloin made history. When police attempted an unwarranted arrest at Compton's Cafeteria, the community fought back in America's first recorded act of militant queer resistance. This interactive theater performance brings that pivotal moment to life in a functioning replica diner. Breakfast included!
As Democrats, we champion equality, justice, and the courage to resist oppression. The brave individuals at Compton's Cafeteria embodied these values, helping pave the way for civil rights victories we continue building upon today.
