Honoring Dolores Huerta, Legendary Civil Rights Activist

Tonight, we adjourn our meeting in deep solemnity and everlasting gratitude for an icon of justice, labor, and civil rights, Dolores Huerta.

Dolores taught us countless lessons, but tonight we reflect on how fiercely she seized every single moment of every single day of her 96 years. She showed us that the labor movement cannot be separated from the broader fight for human dignity.

For Dolores, organizing wasn't just about winning a contract—it was about building an inclusive democracy.

She stood shoulder to shoulder with our immigrant communities, reminding us that those who feed this nation deserve its fullest protections.

She was an early, courageous champion for LGBTQ+ equality, an uncompromising defender of environmental justice for communities bearing the brunt of pollution, and a relentless advocate of the power of the ballot—from organizing farmworkers to vote to championing key measures like Proposition 50 to protect community representation and fair democracy.

Dolores was the living embodiment of the Democratic Party’s core values: that true power belongs to the people, that our coalitions are strongest when they are diverse and inclusive, and that our Party is at its best when we fight unapologetically for working families.

Many of us in San Francisco have counted our blessings for the opportunity to partner with Dolores and the broad community-labor coalitions she inspired.

Her enduring legacy lives on tonight through her remarkable family, through our ongoing organizing work, and through every generation of leaders who she touched directly and indirectly and will carry her torch forward.

In honor of the life, legacy, and courage of Dolores Huerta, this meeting of the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee stands adjourned.
